Crispy Chili-Honey Smashed Brussels Sprouts (Vegetarian, Gluten, Grain Free & Low Carb)
Ingredients
For the brussel sprouts
- 200 g Brussels sprouts
- 3 tbsp Tamari or soy sauce
- 2 tbsp Fiber syrup, honey or agave
- 1 tbsp Olive oil
- 1 tsp Garlic powder
- 1/3-2/3 tsp Chili flakes
For the roasted garlic sauce
- 1 whole Garlic
- 1 3/4 (3/4) dl (cup) Greek style yogurt
- Sea salt, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius or the air fryer to 180 degrees.
- Cut off the bottom of the garlic head and wrap in aluminium foil. Place in the oven/air fryer and roast for about 30 minutes, or until soft.
- Meanwhile cook brussels sprouts in a pot for 10 minutes, until partly tender but not cooked completely soft.
- Combine the ingredients for the brussels sprouts sauce in a bowl. Taste to check if any adjustments need to be done.
- Drain the brussels sprouts and place on a parchment covered baking sheet or cutting board. Using the bottom of a small glass or glass jar press down on the sprouts to smash them flat. Make sure not to break them.
- Toss the brussels sprouts well in the sauce. Place in a single layer on a parchment covered baking sheet or in your air fryer basket. Pour the remaining sauce over the sprouts. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes, then flip and bake for another 5-10 minutes. Or bake in the air fryer for 10 minutes, flip and bake for another 3-5 minutes.
- Meanwhile combine greek style yogurt, the roasted garlic and sea salt in a bowl and mix using a hand mixer. Transfer to a small bowl.
- When done arrange the brussels sprouts on a plate and serve with the roasted garlic yogurt sauce immediately.
